I finally bought a new desktop computer. After much debate about whether I should build or buy my next PC, I just decided yesterday that I would buy a normal pre-built computer from newegg.com. It is a Gateway computer and it looks pretty descent. I also got a 21.6″ LCD monitor as well. I haven’t told Meredith yet, but I am 100% positive that she will be extremely relieved that the decision was made.

Meredith decided to organize a “Biggest Loser” competition with the sisters in our ward. She got me to setup a little website for it. Check it out at http://b2biggestloser.ekfamily.net if you want to check it out.

Well, I haven’t updated this site since last summer so I thought that I would make another post, just so that when people come to the site they don’t see a 6 month old post first thing. (absolutely pitiful, não é?)

August has been a pretty good month and I thought that I would just throw out a few family highlights…
- Gabriella turned 1 year this month
- Gabriella supposedly took her first steps a few days ago when I wasn’t around. Since then she has been trying off and on. She is still the fastest crawler in the house.
- Maryke and Joshua got registered at the Treehouse school for home-schooled kids. I had no idea such things existed. Classes once a week and real, certified teachers will be teaching the classes. I don’t remember the full list of what we signed Maryke up for, but it included Spanish, “family” math, a science class about nature, a reading class, an art class, and one more class. I think it was taekwondo or cooking, I can’t remember. Joshua isn’t even kindergarden age, so his class is more like pre-school stuff where the learning is activity and play-based. If you are interested in checking out the organization’s website you can click here. Meredith will still be homeschooling Maryke (and Joshua), but it certainly will be good for them to have one day a week where they sit down in a formal classroom and they can have other “school” friends, etc.
- We got Maryke and Joshua registered for their next round of Swimming lessons.
Pictures to come!

My Grandma Ek passed away on Tuesday, June 3. She was a wonderful lady and we will all miss her. I have included some links to her obituary articles.

Shortly after we named our baby girl it was brought to my attention that we had given our little Gabriella an interesting set of initials. At my work our userids are comprised of our first initial, middle initial, and the first few letters of our last name, and if Gabriella were to be employed here her userid would be (of all things) GEEK. One of the ladies at work mentioned it to me and she gave a little mocking laugh and asked if we had realized what we had done to our daughter. At the time I couldn’t really figure out how to respond to her mocking joke because I was thinking that it was pretty cool that Gabriella’s initials spelled out the word geek.
I suppose it is because I consider myself a geek… and in my world being a geek is not a bad thing. I ran across this article that I thought was enjoyable and thought I would share with those of you who think geeks are cool too.
